a little progress report for you all,
well things are rolling along quite well, i've been Simplifying the main base frame for the last few days, making it a little less bulky with less welds required ect. I've decided to add some optional side pannels to the machine as a heakth and safety measure, and also to give you all little canvas to personalize your baby.
I have started to develop a new water reservoir for the top of the machine, the cost to produce a tank like the one on our current version would be very high and im experimenting with using a 22litre water bottle, as seen on drinks despensors instead, these retail at about £6.00 which is a bit of a saving as im imagining buying the current tank from a plastic fabricator will cost you closer to £40.
I have also started researching common and easy to find parts such as springs, universal joints and other things im sure you wont want to make if you can get them at a good price online!
I have also started to draw up the actual guts of cyclean, a nice recycled washing machine, hand picked from the dump by our good friend alex, now imortalized in 3D
Heres a sneak peak of a 3D model of the front door you may all recognise.................
so as you can see everything is going very well, i hope to get some serious work done over the christmas break and to start work on the V2 soon after. Plans to follow that when weve tested it fully.

| What you are doing is amazing. And to give out the plans to create one free are even more amazing! Hope your creative mind allows you to come up with things you can make money on. Saving on energy and getting in shape are two things that the world really needs. |

Hello Edward. Brilliant idea. Can't wait to get a look at the plans and hopefully give it a go.
How long does it take to get a wash load done? Is it subjective to how fast you pedal?
Thanks for your inspiration and willingness to share this without stipulation. |

| Hi Im new.....i just discovered this! Fantastic! But im not sure that i would be able to make this myself. Are there any plans to put kits together so that you can sell them to people? I think i would be able to do that! And willing to pay for it! |

I live with 5 others in a 2-family flat-style building on the west side of Boston, MA (though I'm an anglophile, so cheers hehe).
Anyways, 5 out of the 6 of us run our cars on recycled veggie oil, we also have a composting toilet and are trying to be as sustainable as possible.
Our old-fasioned washing machine broke the other day - we're trying to decide whether to have it repaired (costly), buy a new one (even more costly) or do something a bit different and more sustainable.
I came across your website today and am wondering if there are any plans available yet? We have quite a few 'junk' bicycles, as well as the broken washing machine (not to mention quite a bit of expertise with machinery, etc) so I don't think putting the plans together would be all that difficult.
Any updates you can post would be greatly appreciated - keep up the great work!

While the plans are been drawn up try getting hold of a car wheel, universal joint (UJ), or back axel & a long belt to drive the car wheel off the bike wheel. If you use the car wheel it will act as a flywheel too; just to make life easier.
If you are really brave take off the back panel of the washing machine, take out everything thats not needed (e.g. electrical wiring, etc) and take it to you local tip to be recycled.
Brick up the machine so you can get a bucket under it or just stick on a turn valve on the outlet of the washing machine and point down to a nearby drain or grey water tank.
You can pour hot water in from the soap tray, theres no need to cut or build a tank; just watch how many litres of water you use.
Remember to keep the front door, on no need to take it off! (Don't forget if you have a spare washing machine door use it as a novel soup or stew serving dish as it is made of pyrex!!)
Once you have prepared the washing machine fill the outside cavity spaces inside the washing machine with concrete, sand or bricks; this will make the machine more stable when it is running. (Please note: do not fill the inside of the drum!!)
Build a frame for the bike to sit on using the brazons (mud gard fixing holes). It needs to be a nice snug fit so measure twice, cut once!
Now look at the height of the drive shaft out of the back of the washing machine, connect your UJ to the drive shaft on the washing machine, connect the car wheel to the UJ and fix the wheel to the bike frame. Now place the drive belt around the car weel and bike weel......
add a belt tensioner, if required!
A 21 gear bike is best as you will get a good spin cycle, hope that gives you some ideas?????
